LASIK
F. A. Q.'s
Who is a candidate for LASIK?
Most persons with good health and at least 18 years of age with the
desire to reduce their need for glasses or contacts are candidates.
Individuals with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness),
and astigmatism can all have correction with LASIK surgery. Your refraction
must also be proven to be stable. In other words, your eyeglass prescription
has not significantly changed over the past two years.
What is the most important consideration when having LASIK surgery?
You need to feel comfortable and confident with
your surgeon and his staff. After all, you are entrusting your precious
vision to them. Consider the surgeon’s credentials, experience, and
reputation.
How safe is LASIK?
The risk of serious vision reducing complication,
as documented in many clinical studies, is less than 1%. There have
been no reported cases in the United States of blindness resulting
from LASIK. In the hands of an experienced surgeon, LASIK is considered
relatively safe.
How well can I expect to see after my surgery?
Nationally, 95% of patients see 20/40 or better. This vision will
enable you to pass your driver’s test without glasses or contacts.
Many patients achieve at or near 20/20!
How long will the procedure take?
The procedure itself takes less than 10 minutes
per eye. Actual laser time is much less.
What is the recovery period? When can I return to work?
Most people see well enough to be able to return to work the next
day. You will need to use eye drops and wear a shield at night for
about a week.
When and how often will I need to be seen following the surgery?
You will be seen 1 day, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months, 6 months, and 1
year following your surgery. This time frame is to ensure that your
eyes are healing well and to answer any questions you may have. All
of these visits are included in your LASIK surgical fee.
Is the effect of LASIK permanent?
Yes, the effects of LASIK appear to be permanent.
This does not mean, however, that your eyes will never change again.
Changes in the internal structures of the eye may present the need
for glasses again to see your best later
in life.
Do some people need to wear glasses after LASIK?
Nearly every patient who has LASIK has adequate
vision to function well without correction for distance. The majority
of our visual world is no smaller than 20/40. Some patients may find
that they require a minor eyeglass correction in order to see fine
detail. Also, LASIK does not take away the need for reading glasses
that many people begin to experience at about the age of 40.
What is the cost of LASIK surgery?
The price of LASIK is $1,695.00 per eye, which includes,
not only the procedure itself, but also all the pre-operative and post-operative
care necessary
for one year to ensure you receive maximum results.
Are there payment options available?
Yes! We want LASIK to be affordable for everyone. We associate with

patients who want LASIK. Their rates are very competitive and payments
are convenient.
