Comprehensive
Examinations
Do
you need an eye examination? Did you know that by looking at your eye, an eye
doctor can get an early picture of some general diseases that may have gone undetected
by you or your general doctor
(including high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and diabetes).
Do you know if your child's eyes are developing as they should?
It
is recommended that children who are not at risk should have an eye examination
at 6 mos, 3 years, and prior to the start of school. Adults age 40 and older should
have a dilated eye examination every 2 years and adults age 60 and older should
have one every year. Children and adults under age 40 should be examined as indicated
depending upon risk factors. Generally this is every 2-3 years. Certainly, if
you have never had a comprehensive eye examination, you are overdue!
The Center for Better Vision offers comprehensive
examinations for patients of all ages. Our doctors and friendly staff take the
time to explain your condition and your options whether you need correction or
other medical treatment.

Cataract Surgery
A cataract is a hardening and clouding of the eye's natural lens. The majority of
cataracts are due simply to the aging process--the older a person gets, the more
likely they are to develop a cataract. Not very long ago persons with advanced cataracts
were considered to be blind. In reality, the majority of people do not have permanent
vision loss because they still have functional nerve tissue in the retina. Once
the cataract is removed, normal vision can be restored.
Dr. Greer uses the latest technique of removing the "old" cloudy lens and replacing
it with a brand new clear lens suited for the
patient's individual eye. This means not only will a patient be able to have clear
vision once again, they may not have to wear the strong glasses they once did, if
they have to wear them at all. Truly, cataract surgery is a modern miracle that
Dr. Greer is pleased to offer to his patients. Dr. Greer performs cataract surgery
on an outpatient basis at several hospitals in Northwest Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma.
Patients typically arrive one hour before surgery and leave about an hour after
the surgery. The procedure itself usually takes 10-15 minutes under topical anesthesia
(no needles!),
and requires no stitches. Recovery is quick with the majority of patients noticing
a dramatic improvement of their vision often by the next day. Cataract surgery is
the most common surgical procedure in the United States today.
Symptoms of cataracts include gradual reduction in vision, difficulty with
vision in bright lighting conditions (glare), and difficulty reading.
